One feature of this decrease is characterized by the occurrence of hypertension. Hypertension is a general health problem with harmful consequences. One of the efforts to lower blood pressure is non-pharmacological therapy by doing regular exercise. This study aims to determine the effect of regular exercise on the elderly will decline the blood pressure level in elderly hypertensive patients in Social Institution of Tresna Werdha Kendari.

Methods: This study was conducted with the design one group pretest posttest design using 30 samples of male and female elderly (≥ 60 years) patients with hypertension who are all into treatment group ( elderly gymnastics ) and are in Social Institution of Tresna Werdha Kendari. Implementation of exercise was done regularly every morning before breakfast for about 45 minutes. This study was conducted on 29 December 2013 to 9 February 2014. In all samples measured blood pressure (systolic, diastolic blood pressure and mean arterial (MAP) using  sphygmomanometers in units of mmHg. Study uses by using T test (t-test) when data normality testing with one sample Kolmogorov smirnov test showed normal distribution of data. But if the data were not normally distributed, the analysis tool used is non-parametric wilcoxon statistical test.

Results: The mean systolic blood pressure in the gymnastics group 147.33 ± 16.47 mmHg, mean diastolic blood pressure on the exercise group 82.44 ± 7.52 mm Hg and blood pressure mean arterial (MAP) in the exercise group 104.51 ± 9 , 58 mmHg. The results showed that the significance value p-value of 0.001 which means sig <α = (0.05). It was concluded that this elderly exercise can help lower blood pressure in Social Institution of Tresna Werdha Kendari and expected exercise can help  people or elderly to lower blood pressure, especially hypertension.
